Yes they will work

They will most definitely work. Just make sure your chain is compatible with your cranks and cassette. Most HG and higher chains will work for 8+ speeds. If you are having any shifting probs after the switch double check the chain.

but it seems not. The original poster and you both seem to have another definition for "cranks" from the one I understand. The "cranks" are what attach to your bottom bracket and then your pedals attach to those. How could that have anything to do with your chain, chain rings or 9 speed? :confused:
