Here's the story:
I currently have a 819/xtr 135r/20mm front on my '09 turner 5 spot with tubeless nevegal 2.35f and 2.1r, I ride really non-friendly terrain here in the west coast of Canada; Vancouver/Squamish/Whistler. So far it's been helding fine on the north shore trails (Despite the non-Dh tires, I'm surprised) but doesn't feel as strong as with real DH casing tire.

I want 2 wheelsets: A light one that can take a lot of abuse with those same tires as above, and one I won't care about and just huck it, with real DH tires.

I have 2 options, and you might think it's dumb.

1) Either I buy a set of crossmax SX and mount those tires above on, and keep the 819 but mounted with Dh tires.

2) OR, if the SX can't take as much abuse as the 819, I could keep the 819 as is, and buy a set of 823 with DH tires.

So basically, I'm doing a 'versus' between 819 and crossmax sx.

The SX are so light, almost scary at 1750 grams vs my 819/XTR at 2050.

Thanks for answers.

I have 819's and 823's, but not the SX. I think what will get you in the end is the width of the 819's. Being they are designed for a max 2.3 tire this really limits you on your DH tire choice. The 819/SX is also designed for AM use, and unless you are really light I wouldn't put them through constant DH/FR abuse.

I know this doesn't exactly answer your question, but I would go with some 823's and call it good

Thanks for the feedback man.
I would be using kenda nevegal 2.35, dh casing. It will fit the 819. But..

I think the 823 is a decent choice. The thing about the SX is tha if something bad happens to the rim, I'm screwed.

1. You're not screwed if something happens to a SX rim. Mavic sells more. It's a bit harder to find them than a normal rim but they exist.

2. The SXs are burly wheels. I'd feel comfortable doing anything on them that I'd be comfortable doing on a 5 Spot.
