I intend to run 1x8 speed on my MTB, using 8-speed cassette, XTR 970 rear derailleur, 3/32" chainring and 8-speed chain, will the 8-speed chain rub on the XTR rear derailleur?

I run an;

XT 8 Speed crank
XT 8 Speed cassette
XT 9 Speed front derr.
XT 9 Speed rear derr.

with an 8 Speed shimano chain with no issues at all. It runs flawlessly. Have fun,

I run 8 speed shifters but I have used a 9 speed shifter when I had to. Both work the same, just set it up to run right and you're good to go.
