so i'm looking to replace my shifters since i have to use my index and thumb to change gears. I would like change gears using only my thumbs

I've been looking but alot of shifters are for 9 sp.

So what 8 sp shifters are there?

None that are thumb only - that's the new SRAM stuff which is currently just 9 speed. They did make a Gemini trigger shifter last year that might have been thumb only but stay far away from them - they sucked.

Outside of Shimano triggers, your only other 8 speed option is twist shifters.

Get a Shimano XT Rapidfire 8 spd. Mine has lasted since 1994. It seemed the index finger lever was not picking up 1/10 times for a while, but i rinsed it with Singer-oil which cleaned out a lot of gunk. As good as ever before, never missing a shift! Seems really good quality. I'll do 8 speed on my hardtail for a long long time.

One other option.

Not cheap, and not common. Paul's Thumbshifters. Runs about $80-$100 when you purchase the mounts and Ultegra bar cons. Shift nice, plus got friction to really bail you out when everything goes wrong. Plus they are true thumbshifters too.

Less problems with my set than my XTR's.

Good luck,
