possibly. 700c and 29er are the same rim size but I would check with the manufacturer regarding narrowest tire they recommend on their rims. The delgado is quite wide and while I would say a 700x36mm would work I would check with salsa first.

There is a salsa forum in which you could post this or you could go directly to them. They ar responsive on both accounts posting regularly here.

is this possible? Could I use say like 36mm tire on a salsa delgado?
29" is 700C. As long as the tire is wider than the rim (outside) you are golden.

There are/were 3 versions of the 700C/29 Delgado (Cross, Disc, Race) and all are narrower than ~24mm.

So what happens when the rim is wider than the tire?

I forgot what rims I had on my 26 inch mountain bike but I ran 25c Ritchey tires on it for hundreds of miles at PSI over 100 with no problems.

hrmmm... delgado is spanish for "skinny", aptly named as it's very nearly road touring rim width.
GORDO would be the wide one. (that'd be spanish for fattieboombalattie... or somesuch)

You have a greater risk tire sidewall and rim damage. A common XC "race" rim is/was in the 22-24mm range so a 25mm tire would be about as narrow as you would want to go.

I have a Specialized Roubaix Armadillo with the 23/25 (23 tread/25 casing) on a Delgado Race rim - fits fine, though setting the bead the first time was tricky. The tire looks gigantic on the wide rim, though I don't fear it coming off.
I ran this tire on a Bontrager Mustang rim for 400-mile road tour. Worked great!

But if it is used on the road, is that really a big problem?
