29" is 700C. As long as the tire is wider than the rim (outside) you are golden.alfiegee said:is this possible? Could I use say like 36mm tire on a salsa delgado?
hrmmm... delgado is spanish for "skinny", aptly named as it's very nearly road touring rim width.rockcrusher said:The delgado is quite wide.
You have a greater risk tire sidewall and rim damage. A common XC "race" rim is/was in the 22-24mm range so a 25mm tire would be about as narrow as you would want to go.richwolf said:So what happens when the rim is wider than the tire?
I forgot what rims I had on my 26 inch mountain bike but I ran 25c Ritchey tires on it for hundreds of miles at PSI over 100 with no problems.
I ran this tire on a Bontrager Mustang rim for 400-mile road tour. Worked great!vwvoodoo said:I have a Specialized Roubaix Armadillo with the 23/25 (23 tread/25 casing) on a Delgado Race rim - fits fine, though setting the bead the first time was tricky. The tire looks gigantic on the wide rim, though I don't fear it coming off.
But if it is used on the road, is that really a big problem?shiggy said:You have a greater risk tire sidewall and rim damage. A common XC "race" rim is/was in the 22-24mm range so a 25mm tire would be about as narrow as you would want to go.
Yeah, but then your bike is a 27er.alfiegee said:is this possible? Could I use say like 36mm tire on a salsa delgado?
It can be. And as mentioned in another reply, a "square" profile does not corner well on the road.richwolf said:But if it is used on the road, is that really a big problem?
