So a buddy of mine is loking to upgrade to a 6" travel bike with a budget of around $2000. The thing is, as a good union guy he really wants to stick to an American made frame. New or used does anyone have any suggestions?

I am a made in U.S.A. supporter myself. Good on your buddy:thumbsup:

The Ventana El Terremoto. I have 4 Ventanas and you would be hard pressed to find a better company. Sherwood is one of the best guys in the business. I don't know the suggested retail price, but call Larry at Mountain High or Chad at Red Barn for the best price quotes. It should be in the ball park of his price range.

The Turner 5 spot (5.5 inches of travel) or the RFX (6.4 inches of travel) are both excellent bikes. Call the same 2 dealers above for quotes. Dave Turner is legendary in the industry for outstanding customer service, excellent bikes and just an all around good guy.

While both Ventana and Turner make excellent frames I was under the impression that a complete bike from either would be in the $3500 to $4000 range. My buddy was looking for a complete bike in the $2000 range. Unless someone is looking to sell a used large 5-spot or El Terremoto.;)

He's going to have to buy it used. No such animal (2K complete, American-made) exists, I believe.

You are correct about the pricing for a complete bike. I didn't read your post very carefully and just thought frames right away. Sorry about that.

Go-Pirates probably has a good suggestion with the Cannondale. I think some of their entry level hardtails are made overseas now but most of their frames are still made in the U.S.

Thanks for all the replies. I think he's going to look at a Cannondale Rise tonight. Any overall opinions on these frames? From what I have heard they are the more up to date version of the prophet. Also any opinions on the Lefty Max shock?
