I just got the call "I need a new bike, but dont want to spend more than a G". Whats out there in the entry level FR or AM line up?

well a couple years ago i got a haro extreme x2 for 980 on closeout because the season was over. it wasnt anything special but it had 6 inches of travel and got me further than my xc hardtail.
however, Id say your best bet to get a solid bike for that amount of money is to go used.

hab1b that is very impressive..
those bighits look like toys that should not be ridden without adult supervision. The iron horse options look pretty good.
considreing this is your first FR bike try to aviod jumping right into 8 inches of travel or you will not know what to do with it and your style will be disgusting. i've seen it happen right before my very eyes.

I was in your same postion. I didnt want to spend over 1k on a FR/DH bike. I opted to spend the extr 200-300 and get a 06 IH 7poin3 off performance bikes (pricematched to rscycle) I wouldnt want it any other way. The bike is great. The only thing that MIGHT have to be done to it is a new rear shock. The Metel R kinda sucks, the frame is solid components are great. GREAT bike for the price (since it retails regulary for over 1600! Spend the extra money. It will do you better in the long run. THe nice thing about the 7.3 is it can ger progressivly better with you.

I just picked up a 7 Point 3 from Randal Scott... I'm 6'1" and went with the 17" mainly because the 23" effective top tube matches that of my XC Bike, and I am not regretting the decision one bit. Also, check out Santa Cruz's website - they are blowing out Swinger 6-way shocks for $99, which is a great upgrade to the Metel that comes on the bike.

man, dont you hate when you wake up and find yourself barreling down mountains over dangerous obstacles with nothing but wheels between me and the ground. it always ruins my day when i land that scary gap.
im just messing around but chances are its more a matter of how obbsessed will you become.

Bullits for under 1400 are hard to come buy. I mean they are out there for that price... but they are hunks of junk. Just get a new 7point bran spankin new:thumbsup:
