At the risk of bringing up a over-accesed topic...
I just picked up a used 03' norco atomik for a killer price that i could'nt pass up and had a quick question.
I know it's mostly up to feel but would you say that a 5.5 rider would genrally fit well on medium frame? (a top tube length of 23.22 inches)
what are the disadvantages of riding a larger frame? are there any advantages?

Normally we recommend a small to a 5'6" rider, especailly if the TT is over 23"s. However, stem length, seat post offset and riding preference are pretty important too.
