Hoping to do this ride for the first time this weekend. For those in the know...is it melted out yet? I have the impression it melts out about the same time as Miller which I read is clear.

Thanks

My guess is nope, not quite yet. I read and saw pics from a hiker report on Iron Peak last week and the drifts were still really big there. Stafford, Standup, Bean and Beverly all have ENE facing slopes that still have snow. Miller faces South and South West.

Go for it though and please report back. I'm planning on riding near there in a week or so.

The descent down Eldorado creek is worth it.
29 Pines CG is a great base to start this ride from too. free camping on the river!

Borneo is right, it doesn't melt out as fast as Miller Peak.

Borneo is right, better wait a week.

Taken yesterday from Navaho Peak. Swiped from a hiker's website. View SW. Earl Peak is on the right. For reference I've drawn in the approximate trail route to the Stafford / Standup Saddle.

Not looking good IMO.

There may also still some snow on the back side of Standup / Bean Saddle, etc..

I bet you could still do the ride though. Be sure and take lots of pictures and give us a ride report!

Is Borneo ever wrong?

Are you doing a no repeat year again? Reason i ask is i'd like to try an Esmerelda figure 8, starting near Fortune Creek.

i'd bag out on the Devils Gulch figure 8 to do that instead....

Well, it seems to be looking that way so far this year. but, not by design like last year.
Where would you start on the 8? I'll already be in the drainage. The back side jeep road up to Gallagher will likely have snow.

You really want to ride with 31 people up and down DG/MR? :) Plus all the shuttle monkeys on a nice hot Sunday.

Whats wrong with big group rides they keep the bears and cougars away.

Ya know in the 3yrs that I've ridden DG. I have only come across two pep's coming down DG and they were on Moto's as I went up the trail. I am also usually the only car in the parking lot or the group I went with.

Maybe the Shuttle Folks come later in the day....after I've left.
