I've got a nice set of stronglight cranks with a 110 bcd I'd like to use on the fixie. I'm looking for a 42 tooth ring, ideally in steel, something like a Surly would be nice, but it seems the biggest they do is 38? Anyone know of anything which might suit?

I can't think of anyone producing a stainless 42-tooth. Surly only goes to 38 in a 110 bcd. There is always Boone if you want to hoc the car...

try sheldon brown / harris cyclery; google either. they carry TA chainrings in a variety of sizes, and in particular I believe for the 42T, 110BCD crankset.

Large steel rings might be hard to find. Matt Chester notes potential problems with lateral stiffness when you get into sizes with a large disparity between the BCD and the outer diameter: http://www.63xc.com/mattc/surlyring.htm
