I have a 3x10 (11-36 cassette) and notice front derailer chain rub when in the middle ring up front and smallest ring in the back (11 teeth). Is this normal or is there an adjustment I can make to the fd? I always thought that in the middle ring up front you should be able to run any gear in the cassette and be clear of fd chain rub.

Try turning the barrel adjuster on the front shifter counter-clockwise until it doesn't rub. Then check to see if it rubs when on the big cog.

The barrel adjuster is harder to turn when on the middle or large ring. There is no tension on the cable when on the small ring. If I adjust it while riding (especially when wearing gloves), I shift to the small ring to adjust it, then shift back up and check it.

Hey thanks. This solved the problem. I can hit all gears in the cog while in middle chain ring with no rub.:thumbsup:
