Looking at a set of carbon rims. I currently run29er, 30mm wide with 2.4 Hellkat and Nevegal tyres.

I ride steep muddy trails 50% of the year (UK), and am worried a higher volume tyre will float about too much.

Opinions? I can get a 30mm rim but its not as strong!

30mm to 33mm isn't going to make a meaningful difference in volume -- not enough to worry about "float".

For 2.4" Kenda's I'd stick with 30mm at most.

Say what...?
Agreed, it's not.

I think a lot of this comes down to preference. I definitely prefer a little more sidewall support and squarer profile versus round.

In my opinion a hellcat would be just fine on 33iw rim.
