32T round to 30T oval chain length

Just switched from a 32T round to a 30T oval and kept the chain length the same. I had read that 2 teeth doesn’t require any links removed but with a 30T oval there’s a period of 28T which is 4 teeth from my original chain length of 32 round. Do I need to actually remove a full link in this case?

Shift bike into highest gear.
Rotate the cranks into the shortest chain ring position.

Observe your derailleur, is it taking up enough slack?

shift to hardest gear

just fit the longest chain, where the derallieur maintains chain tension, w crank set to smallest position of the oval.

its that simple.

if not sure.

remove the quick link and relax the chain to see when the derallieur goes limp.
Yes, remove a link.

Yes, remove a link.
I ended up sizing my chain again by following the Shimano method and wrapping around the largest gear while skipping the derailleur and counting links. Ended up being 1 link too long. Removed one link you mentioned and now chain tension is perfect.

Where did you clock the chainring?

Shouldn't matter?
The rear mech only moves a couple of mm?

I think you're right I just did the same last night

When I sized the chain using the Shimano method I moved my cranks in a few different positions just to see. It needed a link removed no matter what position my cranks/chainring was in.
