29x2.8 on new nimble 9

Has anyone actually used 29x2.8 on a new Canfield Nimble 9? tried searching, could not find any. I know Canfield says clears in forum section. Keep going back to trying nimble 9 as 29+ rigid. Being BB is not crazy low, Rigid 500AC and 29+ bringing up BB would think would be ideal. Get a HA about 68 and even if chain-stays have to be put at longest 430, still should be nimble for a 29+. Was leaning toward Japhy, but seems would be to slack/floppy for me and 2.8 has been reported hard to fit and the chain-stays would be longer to fit then Nimble 9.

Here is a pic of a 27.5 x 2.8 in The shortest chain stay position. I think you could fit a 29 x 2.8 no problem in here, would just be using a longer chainstay setting.
How far up you could slam it on 29 would require some experiment and depend on interaction between rim and tire profile.
This is 35mm id spank rim and Terrene McFly tire.
For scale the closest gap anywhere is around 6mm at the moment.

Interesting. I considered the newest gen N9 for rigid SS duties before buying my Japhy. Was worried about the fact that they designed it for such a long fork. A 120mm squish fork is supposed to translate into a roughly 500mm A:C rigid, so I got hung up on what it would take to compensate for the 140-160mm they designed the frame for. I never considered a shorter fork specifically to steepen the HTA. Smart! Run a 29x3.25 up front and maybe some shorter cranks if the BB gets low.

I’m running 2.6 out back (on i40 rims) with a 3.25 up front on my Japhy. It’s a surprisingly great combo. And it’d let you slam the rear on the N9 to really take advantage of the short stays.

I should try a 2.6 once in the rear of a hardtail. I thought the Japhy would be the one, but as you and others have shown the clearance is not ideal, why started crunching numbers on the nimble 9. Maybe the 2.6 rear and 29X 3.0 front would be ideal! Heck when I first built my Krampus up when rigid I ran 3.0 front and a 2.35 High volume ikon on an i35 rim and I thought that was cush in the back. Then I eventually went mullet style with 120 fork, 29x2.8 front and 27.5x3.0 rear. It is a ripper, but I have wanted a rigid bike back in my quiver! Just want little more modern geometry then my Krampus, why navigated toward nimble 9. Thou doh! I already have an older nimble 9 with 140 fork. Why not have two thou!

How do you like that tire? I’ve got rekon 27.5 x 2.8 on mine, and i want something a bit more substantial that’s possibiy not maxxis for winter.

The McFly Light? I like it. I don’t have enough experience with how knobs should be an plus tires, but I’m satisfied with the McFly on the rear for sure.
I paired it with a plus cushcore, run around 12 to 14 psi and am living the dream.

I like it enough to strike a bargain for a cake eater to try on the front in lieu of the dhr2 29x3.

the dhr2 is the baddest tire I’ve ever seen, but the cake eater will be 400g lighter. It might be worth it, might not, only trying will tell.

I should also say I have a recon 27.5x2.6 and I think the McFly is one more tread rating more aggressive. I’d put the recon a 2 to 3 and the McFly approaching 3.5. The Terrene light casing is finer than the exo casing.
Neither is as knobby as the dhr2 (a 4+), particularly in the center tread. And all three of these casings are thin compared to the Michelin Wild Enduro, which has more side knob than the dhr2 and a heavier casing. That tire is a totally different animal.

It is so ridiculous. But absolutely fun to ride. I don’t have much time on it, but plowing into very deep puddles and watching it make spray was super fun.
Never had even a hint of traction issues on one 100m section of baby to human head size wetted out rock. Plow on!
