29er Drive train? KM & Rohloff

1033 Views 4 Replies 3 Participants Last post by  c0jones
I'm new to figuring out a good chain line and I am thinking of hooking up a striped down XT or LX crank, but will need to buy a new Bottom Bracket I'm thinking a shimano ES71 73x??? not sure anyone have any guesses? This is for a KM 22 with a Rohloff Speedhub.

Last time I tired to figure out a chain line I ended up with an extra BB.

Any better ideas for the crank/chain ring. I'm new to not using a derailer, and am not familar with anything remotely singlespeed.

73?

I'm not familiar with the RSH, but does the monkey use a 73 BB shell depth or 68?

It uses a 73bb

Speedhub Nate suggests a 73X 113 so I'm headed in that direction but I wonder would the 73X118 work if I had the chain ring in the middle possition?
Got that wrong

NEver mind I'm low on sleep today....
According to Surly website:

"Bottom bracket shell: 73mm wide, 1.37x24t.

Chainring Clearance: 48t max"

You will need a fairly high chainring-to-cog ratio... lowest gearing allowed by Rohloff is 38:16, 36:15 or 40:17

Even with a 29" tire those will be quite low, because 11th gear is direct drive.
