Hi, what do I need to be aware of when mounting 27.5 wheels on 26" frame? (Is it a really bad idea?)

I'm having trouble finding a new wheel set for my frame.

Tire clearance is the main concern. You could fit 27.5 wheels into time frame, but if you can't fit the correct tire widths and volumes because it's rubbing the frame/fork, what's the point?

My 27.5's overall weren't that much bigger diameter wise, but my rims were a lot wider. I could have run a 2.25 or so in my old bike with plenty of clearance, but not the 2.4 to 2.6 tires we have now. I even ran a 2.5 26" on the old bike. It really is bike dependent and the wheel tire combo you run.

Good looking ride btw...

My guess is dependent on width of tire you are looking to run 27.5. What’s on there now? They look close to 2.5, if they are or a wider 26er, you should be able to fit 2.3” wide 27.5. My frame accommodates that, but it is a surly, fwiw.

edit, the recommended reading sometimes drags up old threads, will have to check that next reply!
