I am loving my 2021 spitfire! I am entertaining the idea of a 27-26 mullet combo and think its really cool banshee offers the dropouts
Background:
•20+ years on 26ers so not afraid of less rolloverability but recognize it is a trade off
•Have a 29/27.5 mullet enduro bike, really like mixed wheels
•difference between 29/27.5 is less than difference between 27.5/26 so not sure how extreme bb drop would be on the spitfire (see below for more thouhhts on this)
•run 165 cranks and enjoy good clearance but may be willing to sacrifice pedal strike risk for MX handling characteristics
•i am 6’2” and build up a large as a “smaller play bike” i am digging it!

probably the most important question is how much does rear axle height change when switching wheel size and getting the applicable drop out. If it stays the same or change is minimal a new rear wheel and drop outs will likely be on my short list of purchases.

thoughts or experiences?

Errr... Actually it is the other way around.

Take a look to the Etrto sizing:
26" is 559mm
27,5 584mm
29 622mm

Tire dimensions aside, 27,5" is 1,045 times bigger than 26" and 29" is 1,065 times bigger than 27,5.
Yeah thanks i mixed that up. I was thinking about this article Banshee wheel size but it had been too long since i last read it. So the MX effect should be even greater on a 27/26. Tasty!

edit: not so tasty afterall. I was a bit rushed in thinking that through. Dont want to spread misinformation. Per eddie: 26 and 27.5 is closer in size than 27.5 and 29. Hope I finally got that right.
