I have a 2002 Marzocchi Shiver and just got an adapter for it today. I know about the whole "Marzocchi adapter being 5mm wider than the rest in the past" thing so I called around and talked to people before buying one and was reassured that any IS to PM 203 adapter would work. I chose, installed, and no dice. It is off by five millimeters. I know that some have spaced with five 1mm washers and then used a longer bolt but it seems to me that this would be a weaker setup than using the wider adapter because the washers are separate from the adapter thus making the lever arm longer, and under the same force would increase the stress at that point. Do you all think I should space it or replace it?

I guess my question is: Is a 20mm hub adapter what I need in this situation?

At this point I'd just replace the Shiver. If you've been riding it since '02 and haven't experienced problems yet they will definitely begin to crop up soon.

Thanks for the input guys. I got a 20mm adapter and fixed the problem about a month ago.
