So got my first ride in the dirt and I have to say I'm not disappointed. Climbs good and rails on the downhill. Only I'm thing I don't like is the front tire. The Butcher T9 is overly sticky and flings alot of lose dirt in the eyes. It'll be the first thing changed. Probably just going to put an Elimination T7 to match the rear like I had on my previous bike.

No such thing as a too sticky front tire IMO. What you need is a fender, not less front traction.

I found the same thing with the Assegai. Luckily I already had the front fender on order.
Cheap fix for having a "planted" front end!
I also found it aides in keeping the dirt/mud off the Forks (to an extent).

Any Butcher/Assegai-like tire will throw up dirt and small legos. We sometimes have fun trying to use this "feature" as an acorn-gun, and get points when we manage to shoot & hit a rider up ahead when the acorn pops out from the fender :)

That said, I'm super impressed by the T9 Butcher (grid trail) as a front for my current riding conditions. Never had a front stick this good to wet roots, rock face and rocks, even with high-ish pressure. The old gen Butchers were useless on off-camber rock face in the wet.

I'll probably not run it during the dry part of the season as I prefer faster-rolling & lighter tires. Not much loose/hardpack here that needs digging into, so lower/fewer knobs work just fine (Eliminator, Purgatory which I now run as rears).

I run the t7 butcher front and t7 eliminator rear here in dry SoCal. Great combo and I’ll keep running them since they’re only $60/tire and don’t have the “maxxis wobble” even after multiple installs

After two shops and 612 miles (long story), I picked up an Alloy Comp S4 yesterday. I really liked the combination of spec, price, and geometry for the riding I do. I hope to have some initial impressions in the next few weeks. I am trying to wait on my frame protection to get installed first. This bike should serve me well for trail riding and the occasional trip to the bike park.
For those wondering, my stock S4 setup tubeless is 35.4 pounds using the super scientific bathroom scale technique. Once I have my Nox carbons w/ Hydras installed I will update the weight.

Has anyone ridden BOTH alloy and carbon? I was super intrigued by the freehub review that claims alloy feels better that carbon.

My choice right now for ~$6K: (1) get a alloy comp, save money for future upgrades / n+1, (2) carbon expert, or (3) upgraded used '21 with carbon wheels. I was a little worried the alloy comp was under-spec'ed and heavy, but sure is getting some nice reviews!
