2022 Fox 34sc negative air spacer?

2721 Views 4 Replies 3 Participants Last post by  FuelForThought
Picked up a 2022 34 Step cast (100mm Fit4) and am getting ready to pull the lowers off and check for excessive assembly grease. I got one ride in on it and it felt pretty harsh on small bumps (admittedly too short a ride to do much fiddling) so I wanted to take the negative air volume spacer out while I was in there to try.

However, I’m not having much luck finding any info or documentation on where it is or what it looks like. Tried emailing Fox but was ghosted after they responded asking for info that was already given in my email 🙄. Here’s the only info I’ve found on Fox’s site and various press releases…

New for 2022, the 34 SC comes with the option to tune the negative air spring with a volume spacer.

Just wondering if anyone has messed with any of these yet and had some insight?

Maybe this will help: Fox 34 StepCast 2022

"The 2022 Fox 34 StepCast get's a new and slightly more tuneable air spring. For years it was all about adding volume to the negative air chamber in order to improve a forks initial stroke suppleness, but for the 34 SC, with the racer in mind, the ability to volume-reduce the negative chamber with a clip-on style spacer, that allows users to customize the degree of support off the top, which may favor those looking for a slightly firmer platform in that initial stage of the travel. This will sit on the silver section on the lower seal-head of the air spring."

Have you had any luck smoothing out the small bump response? I rode a brand new 2022 34SC 120mm at an 8h race last weekend and the travel indicator only made it to 82mm. Fork was so harsh that I was wishing for the 32 SC on my hardtail.
