2022 Fox 34 Grip 2 29 at 150mm?

Search results from Fox tell me the new 34 Grip2 non-stepcast is maxed out at 140mm, but I see oem 34s at 150mm.
And the likes of Fanatik sell air shafts up to 150mm for a 29er, not just the 27.5.
A bit confused.

Wanted to verify from those who have done it: can a new Fox 34 Grip 2 non-stepcast 29 be set at 150mm?

FWIW, I'm 160 pounds and don't think I need a Fox 36.

My understanding is yes. At 150 the fork should be stiff enough unless you are a very aggressive rider.
Are you an aggressive rider? I weigh 150lbs geared up and had a fox 34 140mm which felt flexy. Can't imagine what a 150mm fox 34 would feel like.

The airshaft on the 2022 is different on the Fox 34. It max out at 140mm airshaft which is the same length of a 150mm of the older airshaft.

If you really wanted to do this (get ready to lose your warranty) is to purchase the older 160mm airshaft and replace the piston and bottom out bushing from your current airshaft you have in your Fox 34 and install. This will give you a 150mm of travel.

Yes you can just install the 160mm airshaft without changing everything but won't work properly due to the fact that the bypass channel are in different positions than the older Fox 34.

A tiiiiny bit more flexy given the A to C change is about 2%

I run my 27.5 F34 at 150mm...I can't tell the difference in "flex" between that and my DVO Diamond 29 at 130mm.

I'm 145lbs.

And the cost of a 2021 F34 and buying a $340 Grip2 damper + 150mm air shaft doesn't make sense. I appreciate the 2022 info!

what bike you wanting to put a new fork on and what terrain do you normally ride. Given you are interested in the step cast are you wanting to save grammage?

For this fork and bike I am not interested in the Stepcast which maxes out at 120mm. This bike is a new Stumpjumper carbon and currently has an older 140mm Fox 34 FIT4. I was thinking of putting on a 150mm Fox 34 Grip2 and wanted to see what my non Fox 36 options were because that fork is too much for my weight and trails and the bike. Knowing the 2022 F34 Grip2 maxes out at 140mm I have to decide if upgrading the fork is worth it (the bike is #3 in my rotation) or if I put the money toward a Ripmo AF SLX which would rarely get used....but variety is the spice of life and there'd be absolutely ZERO overlap with my gravel and xc marathon 100mm bike. Apologies for the long reply.

I wouldn't rule out a 36 (or a lyric or a mezzer). The top end models come with those. Personally I'd get a mezzer and lower travel to 150mm (easy to do with the included spacers). Has a better air spring/damper than the rest with dials that actually do something. A fork is more than just its diameter.

Why not go with the RockShox Lyrik Ultimate then? The weight is about the same.

edit: I mean the Pike Ultimate.
I would do a 150 Pike myself. It would ‘match’ the bike better, IMO.

Looking like the Pike Ultimate is what I'll go ocd ruminate about, thanks!

in what way would it match the bike better?
Stiffer that the 34, but not as heavy as a Mezzer or a Lyric, if weight is an issue.
