I pulled apart my headset trying to track down some creaking in the front end.

Good news is that I'm 99% sure the creaking was from the headset. The bad news is that the outside of the bearings (both top and bottom) had a lot of dirt and a good bit of corrosion on them. The bearings still turned smoothly but the top is starting to get contaminated based on feel.

Seems like the factory headset doesn't seal well at all. I'm going to replace the headset, but don't know what size to order.

Had anyone else replaced the headset, what size is needed. I'm thinking either Cane Creek or Chris king for replacement.

Thanks in advance.

Why not just service them?
I did service them, but since they aren't sealed very well it will become an ongoing issue more frequently than I want to deal with. Plus the corrosion on the outer service of the bearing race is only going to get worse with time. I may as well tackle this over the winter.

I'll throw a better sealed headset in and reduce the frequency of service. I'm willing to pay for something better to save the time.
I've had the bike since July, but am averaging 30+ miles a week.

Giant has been using this same basic headset on all the Anthem, Trance and Reign bikes. Probably still applies.
Headset NO57 28.6-44-56-39.8 H=12.8 BLK w/8mm spacer (for tapered HT&1-1/8" to 1.5" Fork) FSA Orbit 1.5 ZS.

Someone posted that the CC 40 is a good HS. I just bought one for my son's HT. Seems nice. In bold are the important sizes if you look at other brands. You'll need to determine the stack height you might want.

Thanks,
That's what I was looking for.
