Looking to get a new bike and don't want to spend a lot of $$$, so I am considering alloy bikes. I know these 2 bikes are both great values, I am just wondering (having never ridden either bike) is the DW suspension THAT good that it over shadows all the techy coolness of the stumpy evo (geo adjust, SWAT)? I assume the Ripmo AF is a better climber but the evo may edge out in the descents. I am a beginner+/intermediate rider in Las Vegas, NV where the trails can be pretty rough. Looking experienced based opinions. Thanks!

I’m an Ibis guy, but if I was in the market for one right now, I would go Stumpy EVO.

the adjustable geo, ability to mullet, swat box and the arguably better descending prowess of the EVO sound really good.

However, this level of certainty is only happening because I have a Ripley V4 that I would be using on days where I want light and efficient.

If I was only going to have one bike, it would be harder.

I would also take a look at the Raaw Jibb if you’re looking for a solid all around performer.

Might as well throw the transition sentinel alloy in the mix too. Doesn’t have all the fancy features of the evo but still a solid performer

Have a buddy that rides a ripmo and demoed a sentinel. Said if you prioritize going up the ripmo is a better climber with the dw link, but the sentinel wins the downs with the Horst link

Have a Ripmo AF, never ridden an EVO. The Ripmo climbs well as expected (after replacing rear Assegai), and combines playfulness and stability on the descents. I could not wish for a better bike. I think you would probably have to demo both to get a good comparison; that being said, either one would probably be a great choice.

I’m interested if anyone has ridden the ripmo AF, alloy sentinel and the alloy evo. I ride mostly in the AZ desert so punchy technical climbs and chunky downs.

I just ordered a ripmo af and should have it Monday. I just moved to az myself and mostly ride hawes, and some xc peddling with my wife. I used to ride a 21 Marin alpine trail 7 and that was a perfect bike for so cal, long and slack, for arizona I couldn’t be more of the wrong bike. I rode the ripmo af and loved it. Enough to order one. Pedals really welll and handles hawes no problem. Can’t beat the dvo suspension either. I was told within the next couple of weeks they are going up in price so if you want a ibis you need to order now

Thanks for all the replies, advice and comments. I ended up going with the carbon Stumpy Evo, Comp model (brown) and upgraded the fork with a Grip2 damper. The bike climbs well and absolutely rips the downs...very confidence inspiring. Based on this bike, the alloy version would be an EXCELLENT choice.

Nice choice
Carbon definitely a good idea, in alloy I would have went with whatever was lightest. Pedaling a 35lb hog uphill sounds no fun even with Dw link
