2021 Pivot 429 Bottom Bracket Choices?

I'm interested in a Pivot 429 Race/XT. The Pivot website says the build kit comes with a Race Face Ride crankset, but I didn't see any info about the BB. However, one 429 review I read said the bike uses a custom Enduro BB.

Does anyone know what BB shell standard this bike follows? I wouldn't want to be limited to a custom Enduro BB. I'm not a fan of the Race Face cranksets, either. I would prefer a Shimano XT crankset and BB if that's possible.

The Pivot Trail429 Pro XT/XTR 29 which was delivered to me in August'21 was equipped with the Shimano SH-BB71-41A bottom bracket. This model comes spec'd with the RF Aeffect R crankset which share the same 24mm spindle dimension as the RF Ride crankset (and the Shimano cranksets). Thus, you can mix any brand of crankset and BB as long as the BB internal diameter and the crankset spindle dimension matches. If you want to change the RF crankset on the Race/XT you should be able to do that without changing the stock BB. Run the stock BB until it fails, then replace it. Regarding the Enduro BBs, I've understood they carry a great reputation and many would prefer those over both RF and Shimano bottom brackets. I believe Pivot specs the Enduro BBs for their T429 models with 30mm spindles for durability, as the Enduro PF92 BBs have double row of enduro max bearings on either side of the BB shell to distribute the loads over the smaller bearings needed for those 30mm spindles.

Thanks for the info. This confirms that it's a BB92 pressfit shell, as another poster indicated. The SH-BB71-41A is Shimano's heavy duty Saint BB, which is more common on DH bikes. See here.

I'm surprised that Pivot went with the Race Face cranks on their XT/XTR builds, given that the rest of the drivetrain is Shimano. In any case, since it's standard BB92 shell, swapping to another crankset would be easy.
I also disliked the Raceface cranks on my XT/XTR build. Not that there was anything wrong with it per se. But just so cheap for such an expensive bike. I ended up changing the Raceface to the Rotor Kapic Carbon crankset with the Rotor bottom bracket. Piece of cake to do this swap. At the end of the day, though... Pretty pointless swap. A little lighter. Maybe a little stiffer. Maybe a little more robust with the Rotor 30mm spindle. But, it does the same thing - makes the wheels spin. 😂

What was difference in weight?
It does seem like an expensive swap.

I don't remember but the Rotor cranks were lighter than even XTR cranks which is what I was going to do, but XTR super boost cranks were sold out absolutely everywhere.

I find the Pivot XT/XTR build a little strange in that respect. Most of the drivetrain and brakes are XT but then the derailleur is top-line XTR and the cranks are mid-tier Raceface Affect. A full XT drivetrain would have made more sense. Plus there's already the Team/XTR build for people who want XTR. Ditto for the XT/Race build. Why not a full SLX drivetrain on that build?

A threaded BB on a bike this expensive would have been nice, too.
Cost cutting measures like cheapo Raceface cranks on a "XT/XTR" build is annoying but not a deal breaker.

Threaded bottom brackets are a meme, though. Gotta get the cranks off every few months to service the BB bearings anyhow. At least I do.
And once you've done that, popping out a press fit BB and regreasing the shells and sleeve takes an extra 10 minutes tops. What's the big deal. I say quit whining about parts; just get out and ride the bike. It's a shitload of fun.

I would agree if it weren't for the fact that Pivot bikes are super expensive. For the kind of money they cost, the bikes should have premium parts from top to bottom.

There's always Specialized. 😂
Never had a problem with the Raceface Affect BB. If you don't like the press fit bearing set, replace it with a Wheels Manufacturing sleeved BB! Oh, and I ride over 2000 miles a year.
If it is the same as the Switchblade, it is a BB92 bottom bracket (based on old 73mm standard) but a crank spindle sized for the old 83mm standard. This is to get good chainline for the super-boost rear spacing. I have spacers on my crank spindle to make up the difference. This is the reason for Race Face cranks since I have not seen any Shimano 83mm BB cranks. Race Face only offers these cranks for OEM...

Correction, Race Face and Shimano sell cranks that fit this standard, I know the E-Wings fit, and others do as well, just make sure you get a crank that has a 56 mm chain line.
Just Search for Super Boost Cranks or Shimano Super Boost Cranks these are the models from Shimano that are available. - FC-M7130, FC-M8130, or FC-M9130.
On my switchblade, I switched to a standard XX1 Dub crank to reduce the Q factor. Fits no problem on the Superboost. I used a oneup zero offset Switch chainring. Gets chainline perfect.
