I recently sold my 2014 Trance and picked up a new 2020 Trance Advanced Pro custom build where the builder installed a set of Fox Rhythm 36 Forks and a DPS Shock.

I checked the fork and it looks like it's a 2021 w/160 mm travel. This was a bit of surprise and I understand that this is quite a bit more than the bike was designed for. So I figure I'll bring the travel down some.

Anyone have experience on where I ought to land? Back to a stock 130, or how does a 140 travel with these 36 forks sound? I'm a moderately aggressive rider but don't typically do much in the form of large drops or jumps if I can avoid them. I'm in the older than 60 crowd and break more easily ;-)

So is this the Trance 29? When you say looks like 160mm of travel, what do you mean, did you measure the travel?

The travel isn't going to have a big impact on your overall experience. The offset between the stock fork and the 36 you have on there now is what really matters. The offset on the new fork will put the wheel slightly forward and change the headtube angle by a few degrees. You'll notice it most at lower speeds and on steep descents. Ride it and see if you like how it feels. No need to change a fork for 30mm of travel if the rake feels ok and you can control the bike well.

Looks to me like the offset is 44 for each.

Also, I figured to just change the air shaft..it's less than $50 and won't take me long.

Thanks, I may have seen the wrong year of the new 36. If they are both 44 then I'd say ride it. A little more plushness up front might be nice.
I probably will play with it for awhile. This is the fork according to the code:

2021 Rhythm Series 36 FLOAT 29 160

Part number: 910-25-344
Short ID: D3CG
