Little info for ya'll:
2015 HT features about 70mm of width between the stays and relies on standard MTB chainline. We can only recommend tires that yield at least 6mm clearance all round, so ~58mm+/- is the stated max.
2016 HT/PR features a little over 90mm of width in the same area and requires a +3mm boost chainline for chainring clearance. This allows the max tire width to increase to 76mm (3.0") sticking with a 6mm or more rule (it's acutally more like 8mm which is improved mud clearance)
Lastly, not all 27.5-plus tires are created equal, and don't rely on stated sizes, try to find actual measurements. We found the 2016 HT/PR to ride the best with the larger 27.5-plus tires that measure 74-76mm wide and average around 730mm in diameter. The smaller tires (66-72mm) did not offer enough performance increase in traction or volume compared to a standard size tire and the resulting smaller diameters (some sub-720mm!) exacerbated the BB height change on a 29er frame(s) originally designed for a 740mm wheel diameter. With the true 2.95-3.0" tires the 2016 HT/PR frame compensates for the 5mm loss in BB height with a 10mm longer fork length to effectively raise the BB back to the same place it was compared to the 15 HT 29er. The 2016 frames were updated and tested for this increase in fork length.
