The bike has full Shimano XT groupset, including brakes (just like 2011 XTR), straight pull XT hubs/spokes and XT rims and Schwalbe Racing Ralph tires. Eagle eyes may also see the 2 x 10 drivetrain. Gone are the 2011's blue Fox forks - now in black.
Spotted last week at the Melbourne Motor Show (Australia) sitting proudly on display on top of a new Toyota 4wd.
(Local Bike Shops said they will preview the 2012 Giant range in August). Well... they appear to be on public show already!
pics were taken on iphone.
UPDATE - Main frame - composite (carbon) construction - as in Anthem X Advanced SL. Rear suspension triangle - in aluminium.
13 AUGUST 2011 - UPDATE - The Anthem X Advanced 1 (pictured below) - appears to now be available in Australia to buy. The bike shop link below has spec listed and Aussie retail pricing - $3,999.
Good catch there. I wouldn't call that a minor change though--moving from press-fit back to external.
I do wish they would slacken the Anthem X's head angle to around 69-70 degrees though (with a seat angle of 73-74). And maybe sell them with 120-mm forks. But that's just me
Well spotted!!! I should have picked this up sooner.
On closer inspection of the photos, it is quite clear that the main frame has the same head set profile as the 2011 Anthem X advanced composite frame.
Here's another photo from the other side of the bike (zoomed in) that shows the lack of welds that the aluminium frame would have.
The rear shock mount area is also the same as the composite frame's shape. On a closer look you can see there also are no welds, that the aluminium frame has.
Looks good, agree with the link, more curvy.
Oh and that bike rack is from Thule, google will help you.
On which Toyota was it, maybe I should buy the whole package
Does the fact this this was called an 'Anthem' and not an 'Anthem Advanced' or 'Anthem Alliance' mean that EVERY Anthem in the range will be carbon front and al rear?
shucks, I was hoping the anthem advanced would get a reworked new frame this year (with stronger pressfit BB shell and the other goodies)
it would have tempted me to buy one
Hi guys,
From what Ive heard(yet to be confirmed) the Anthem and trance will be available in Advanced(as pictured) and
Advanced SL with carbon rear triangle. Bike rumour have pictures of the new trance advanced. Interestingly frame weights between anthem x(alloy) and advanced sl quoted to be "only" 250grams, the major benifit of carbon being stiffness.
Anthem 29ers in two grades(im hanging out as its new bike time) both alloy as far as i know
We'll just have to wait to get full details, only a couple of weeks to go
Yep I heard the same this is a new model between the Anthem Advanced SL1 and the X1. They should call it the X0 as thats been missing for a while. Should be a popular lower price point entry into carbon. Not sure why they haven't made the BB pressfit on the carbon frame yet, other are doing this.
It possibly has the new Overdrive 2 standard which I'm not keen on. Who knows if its better than the current standard it just means more sized stems, headsets and forks.
Hopefully the low US dollar means cheaper bikes this year.
Just got my new amb mag. Has a page of 2012 Giants Anthems. Including Anthem x Advanced sl0, Advanced 1, Anthem 29er 0, and 1, Anthem x1,2,3 and 1w, all but x2,3 and xw1 have the new od2. More mix matching of components very interesting. I think ill be getting anthem x29 1. Which is white.
Australian Mountain Bike mag??
Have to go and pick up the latest edition.
Is the bike shown at the Melbourne Motor Show the Anthem X1 or Anthem Advanced or Anthem X0??
The x29 0 is a charcoal colour with xt crankset and r/d, avid elixir 9 brakes, rock shox sid 29 RCT3 fork, Monarch RT3 shock, giant wheels, racing ralph tyres(across the anthem range).
x29 1 is white, fox fork and rp2 shock sram x7/x9 group , elixir 5 brakes.
The add is full page with 8 anthems on the page so some bikes are small and hard to see components.
Thanks for that, I wonder what the 0 will be like with rock shox front and rear, anyone think it's a step forward or back or on par? Didn't happen have prices?
Charcoal color on the 29er X0 ?!
Wonder if that is actually the rumored carbon 29er frame?
