Marz have been stepping it up this last few years, will be interesting to see how the new coating performs, seeing as the Ni coating was already insanely smooth.

Would be pretty interesting if someone done actually smoothness test of all these new fork coating coming out

Fox = Kashima
Marzocchi = Ti nitride
RockShox = DLC (or whatever it was)

Now if marzocchi include this new coating with a nice shimm'ed rebound piston, and a regular direct mount stem mounts, it would be pretty much set

Not to mention it looks drop dead gorgeous! :thumbsup:

I just wanna note that they still have a Nickel coating it's just the base coat underneath the Titanium Nitride. Ronnie says that they are the "insanley smooth". Btw there's only one fork in the world right now assembled up like that and its also got polished bushings, PTFE mixed bath oil and custom mixed seal grease. Basically Marzocchi's version of a fork on crack.

When I raced RC cars in the 90's and early 2000's we used shock shafts with Titanium Nitride coating and it made a huge difference. Then they came out with Titanium Carbo-Nitirde or Ti-Aluminum-Nitride coating (a dark purply color). WOW.

The shiny gold stanchions will not make me forget that avalanche (and even fox and RS) make a far more advanced damping cartridge. Back when RS did it, they told me at interbike it was for marketing purposes, so you could see their racers way up on the hill. The gold flash was let you know it was a rider on a boxxer. With open bath oil lubrication, it wasn't about "decreasing stiction". I wish marzocchi would get back to making some decent damping cartridges, the evo cart was a decent step, but now go the whole way and make a decent rebound valve and anti-bottoming cone like any other decent cartridge system. On a fork as well lubricated as a marzocchi, this is trying to blow smoke up our a$$ IMO.

I feel you there. I love my 888's chassis. So stiff, smooth, fairly light, and only needs the occasional oil change. The damper could use separate Hi/Low compression adjusters (you can accomplish these adjustments internally) and better feeling rebound. I'm probably gonna get the Avalanche cart when it's ready and test it back to back with the Evo damper in various configurations in conjunction with a Marz tech. It will be interesting and I'll let you guys know what we think.

As for the TiNi, it's not just bling/marketing. It's the hardest, most durable, most scratch resistant stanchion finish ever used for MTBs. It's also slipperier than the current Ni coating (which itself is WAY more durable than competitor's). Did Rockshox stop TiNi due to cost? In the moto world we've seen DLC wear through and Kashima flake off. TiNi always looks brand new.

But i do agree with you, it would be nice to Marzocchi make up some better carts, IMO they've pretty much got the chassis dialed. But you are correct in saying that the Marzocchi carts need some work, will with the evo the compression adjust is great but they need a shimmed rebound piston, plus true separate Hi/Lo speed adjusters.

Marz needs to get a hold of Craig for some OE talk about that cart he's making, spec'd in the WC model! Then, Marz can do their voodoo w/ the PTEF blah blah blah and custom formulated monkey jiz and put out a competitive Works fork.
But I'm just thinking out loud...
