So I currently own a 2009 USA made SuperSix Hi-Mod, a 2010 Slice Hi-Mod, 2010 Flash 3 single speed 29er, and a 1998 Cannondale Saeco Replica I am rebuilding......so I have and like Cannondales. That said I also have a 2009 Scott Genius 10 that I love. I am interested in the new Jekyll but am having a hard time seeing the "upgrade, short of a lifetime warranty.
They are of very similar design, geometry and mission. Some of the advantages to the Jekyll that I see are the stronger carbon, lifetime warranty, BB30, better bearing and pivot design. Some that I am not sure are advantages are the redesigned shock (Fox vs DT Swiss), 1.5 inch head tube, more vertical seat tube. My DT Swiss on the Genius has been wonderfully reliable so far, and rides great. My head tube seems as stiff as my Flash's Lefty adorned steering is and I am not sure that a lack of geometry change when lifting the seat up/down will matter to me. The big downside I see to the Jekyll is the weight, 5.78lbs frame/shock vs. 4.96lbs on the Scott (.82lbs/371g).
I have sitting here in my garage new Hope X2 Brakes, XX shifters/cranks/der's/cassette, King Hubs, Stan's 355 rims.......all were going to be on a Superfly until I rode it. So they would go on a new Jekyll......or maybe the Genius.
The Superfly...great bike, great 29er, but as a replacement for my Genius it is not in the same league. It is not as plush, and I have my Genius because I wanted a Plush bike that would climb like a Mtn Goat, keep my bumm happy all day, and let my 210lb butt blast the down hills. I am a cross country rider who loves downhills, the occasional SMALL drops, etc. I had a Cannondale Rush (alum frame, full XO) I loved but replaced with the Genius because I wanted more plushness. I was rewarded with a bike over 1 lbs lighter, more plush, and that climbs as well or better.
So what I would probably do, based on the bike spec's is get a Jekyll 1 because I have all the XX in my garage, so their is no reason to buy the Ultimate since I will only be using the frame/fork, and selling all the stock parts. I would not get the Jekyll 2 because if I am going to do all this it would be wise to get the RLC fork, not the RL. The bummer is that of all the colors, the green is not my favorite. In the end I will wind up with a bike slightly lighter than the Ultimate on paper (my wheels will be SLIGHTLY lighter, I will loose 300g by not running that seatpost, and my Hopes are slightly lighter than XX brakes) but I wont have the SI Crank, which will probably cost me a LITTLE weight (my XX will be BB30 though).
So in a very long winded way.........I am curious to know what all of the experts here think I should do.......replace the Genius with a Jekyll or just put my parts on the 2009 Genius. In the end I think the Jekyll will be about 1lbs heavier, and have a lifetime warranty, and have the fox shock (which unfortunately probably cannot be PUSH'd like the fork can, or like a normal Fox RP23 can be).
