Fantastic news for US mountain bike racing- the World Cup is returning to the US with a round at Windham Mountain in the Catskills, about 2.5 hours north of NYC...

And it's a full triple- XC, DH & 4X.

My only question is who is actually going to race the week before Worlds? I would imagine the majority of the top athletes would rather train and/or rest during the days leading up to Worlds.

Regardless, I'm happy to see a World Cup back in the States and hope it doesn't run into problems, which have derailed the most recent efforts.
This is great news for US mtb!! I think you'll see every one of the top World Cup pro's out there racing this one. Nothing like fine tunin' the form a week before, plus it gets them here and close to Quebec a week or so ahead of time and I suppose that's why they were awarded the race

I hope you're right because that might be worth a road trip...US World Cup and World Champs.
I saw that; great news indeed. Kind of makes me want to race the national at Windham this year so I can better appreciate what the pros are doing if I make it over next year.
I think this wicked.

But given the history of US promotors pulling out and the current economic times what do you think the odds are it actually happening?
They could always bump it to Bromont again at the last minute the same way the gave it to St.Felicien in 2007 when Angel Fire bailed.

Thanks to lots of NYC folks that think they can ski, Windham has money.
Windham has the money, motivated management, existing relationships with corporate sponsors, and 40 million or so potential spectators within a 5 hour radius. I think they'll pull it off just fine.

And yes, it definitely ups the ante for the Pro XCT and Gravity National Calendar stop at Windham this year, between pros hunting for UCI points and checking out the course ahead of next year's WC.
