Last year I bought a 2008 RIP 9 in late December as a closeout, and I was wondering if I can expect some closeout frames to be available in the '09 model. Anyone have any info/input on this subject. Also, I have a manitou minute on my RIP now, will I be able to transfer the fork easily, or is the head tube on the '09 frame longer than the '08's?

Don`t hold your breath.

The 2009`s are 2010`s....
Huh? does that mean that closeouts typically happen when a product changes, like what happened between 2008 to 2009, and that would also mean that there would not be any closeouts until a new frame comes out. That seems odd. I figured it was more of a manufacturer inventory issue, and since so many Jets were replaced with RIP's, I figured there probably wasn't that many '09 RIPs in excess inventory. Either way, I will hope for the best. Worst case scenario, I end up riding the one I got which I have no complaints about, especially while I am still under warranty. Mmmmmmm...but that Anno Black is so purdy.

They run closeouts at the end of a model & the 09/10 Rip9 in most peoples eyes are still new.

But you will need to get your timing right because if you are thinking that the second hand price on these bikes will come down you may be right but it will not come down as fast as the 08.

Best thing would be to have cash in hand for when the Jet9 owners that got a Rip9 to ride while waiting for there new Jet9 to come out start selling there Rip9 so best time to cash out of of the 08 would be now at the latest I would of thought.

Just what I think for what it is worth.

No idea about inventory management, but Niner have posted here several times that they don't do model years.

I would imagine that you see the closeouts when a frame has been changed and the old ones are being liquidated. No changes have been announced for the RIP.

We still have a small '08 RIP on closeout... http://velocevelo.com/store/product/4096/08-R.I.P.-9-Frame-Small-Silver/

I doubt you'll see any '09 closeouts as there aren't really any model year differences between '09 and '10. Niner does occasionally do a special offer (like the party pack on the WFO) so you could watch for one of those and call your favorite Niner dealer to get the deal...

+1 to this. I don't think I've seen many closeout prices on Niners, simply because they don't do the model years that other companies do-- any subtle tweaks are rolled out as they are found. The major redesign for the RIP was the reason for the great deals last year. (There might have been similar closeouts with the older model JETs had they not been crack-pone) Best hope is to wait for people unloading their RIP's as their JETs come in.

And while I don't own either model RIP-- Remembering what I've read from actual owners. The fork will transfer, (with the headset reducer cup) but the angles may be not quite perfect-- the redesign was based around a longer travel fork, I believe?

I just checked with the LBS here to see their input, and the owner said all the '09's are gone and they rolled in/out the '10 models. So no such luck. I was expecting to see a few disgruntled JET owners dump a RIP or two on the secondary market, but they must love them as much as I do. I guess I will just try harder to break my '08 while still under warranty (disclaimer: within standard riding guidelines for those NINER mods in the forum ;) ) in order to try to get a newer one.

Also, as far as the fork is concerned, I have a 120mm on my '08, so it looks like I could transfer all of the parts easily.

I guess this thread will die off into the sunset though - questions answered.
