Im no sure why but i have a fixation to tinker and upgrade my warrior comp. it bases out with decent parts:

Frame Material: 6061 T6 aluminum
Fork: Manitou Six Sport, reverse arch, 100mm
Brake Levers: Hayes HML-1 Mechanical Disc
Handlebar: aluminum
Stem: aluminum
Headset: 1 1/8" Aheadset, zero stack
Front Der: Shimano Deore, top-pull
Crankset: TruVativ Iso Flow, 24/34/42 teeth
Rear Der: Shimano Deore
Pedals: aluminum platform
Tires: 26 x 2.1" WTB MotoRaptor

the guy at the bike shop told me id be spending more than enough to get me a new bike with near equivalent parts if i went full XT on the Warrior.
But i did some math, and heres the parts id want

Xt Crank
Xt Rear Der
Xt Shifters
Xt Cassette
Fork for around $500 CND

If i shopped around and got some good deals and ive seen them on ebay...i kinda totalled it at around $1170 CND to get all that i want...$600-900 CND less than a bike with equivalent parts.

So is my upgrade worth it or save up and in a few years get a new iron horse equiped with that kinda gear and get a new frame, wheelset and such?

I am not a racer, but i ride quite frequently for fun with lots of friends and we take it kinda serious out there.

Just a question, but what don't you like about it, or is this upgrading for the sake of upgrading (nothing wrong with that, trust me)? The biggest performance upgrades would be the fork and the wheels/tires, then probably the cranks if you're a big guy and flexing the cranks. Derailleurs/Cassettes/Shifters don't really do much performance-wise, as the minute amounts of weight you save doesn't really matter very much in the whole equation.

have you thought about full suspension at all? even figuring in 1170 CDN (and I've found that stuff ends up costing more than you usually figure), you still just have a very nice HT. If it's *real* smooth where you ride you're probably fine, but even here on Long Island most of us have moved over to lightweight FS bikes. Might be something to consider in the future, maybe a new fork now and a new hollowpoint (MkIII) later? :D If you have any questions, don't hesitate to ask.

its mostly just for the sake of upgrading...and like i am patient kinda guy...like ill wait for deals and by next season i can have the full XT setup goin fork probly like $1500 cuz i look at what bikes offer at that level and its just like.... on one side theres my bike upgrade with the edge on some components compared to gettin a new bike for $1500 with some LX stuff here and there. I also might be waiting for someone to just slam it down and say its not worth it but this is my first bike that ive felt really comfy on.

FS has been on my mind but i figure ill be spending like $2400 CND for a decent one, like a Specialized Epic with good overall parts and even then kinda heavy bike.

eh, it's ok, we've all been there before. :)

while a FS will be a little heavier than a HT, it's ability to climb/corner/go faster over rough terrain usually outweighs (ha ha) the extra weight. Hey, you never know, some of us got a taste of FS and before I knew it I was racing DH. Give one a try, and you might end up liking it over the HT.

Otherwise, if you're pretty well set on your HT, invest in a new fork and maybe some wheels, then just replace stuff as it breaks.

:)

ok if i go the upgrade route...well with ebay it looks more and more appealing everyday i understand gettin a new fork but i never really liked buying new wheels...k maybe changing the hubs i understand but i got no problems with the rims. I kno wheels are supposed to be a huge thing...but they never were for me since my BMX days...i hate buying wheels. Kinda found a way to save some money to...jsut buy a right XT shifter...cuz my front derailleur works smooth anyway so i wont mess with it...and just have an all XT shifting in the back.
