My 2004 Kikapu just came in to the bike shop a couple of weeks ago. I am paying it out, so won't get it out until spring (3 kids and a wife don't leave enough money to buy it outright). It looks amazing though, even better in person than in the pictures. I have only ridden it for about 30 min, but it was a very nice ride (Definatly better than the Diamondback Outlook that I started out on). Keep up the good work guys, this is an amazing bike.

Congrats on your purchase. I am eyeing a King KiKapu.
I thought I wanted on eof the new salsa full suspensions but already everybody else is snapping them up. I don't wanna be a me too.

Did you get to test ride a Kikapu before ordering? The bike shops here on oahu drive me crazy. They do not seem to reallly stock anything costing over about 1200 bucks.

Then again it might not matter. My last 3 bikes I bought can be categorized as --I saw what I wanted after perusing the mags, did my research, and went out and got it. So I suppose I can just order a medium and probably will be happy.

Will likely wait until 05 tho since I won't be able to ride for the year I am in Iraq.

When I ordered it I had only seen it online and talked to the guys at the bike shop. I was kind of worried, but they said if I didn't like it when it came in I would get my deposit back. They didn't think they would have any problems selling it since 1) it's a Kona, 2) it has disc brakes (mechanical, but still disc), 3) It sells for only $1,000. However, after riding it, no way is anyone else going to get my bike . The bike shop had to order a couple more though for some of the employees who saw it and want one too (I'm sure they will most likely be getting King Kikapus though). I am going to be ordering a Kikapu this Sunday, I can't wait! Test rode one at the shop and it was amazingly sexy. Soooo much better than my old GT Timberline.

stopped by my preferred lbs today and saw an 04 king kikapu on the workstand. all i can say is wow, totally put my fuel to shame. one of the sweetest paint schemes and finish i've ever seen on a bike (even compared to santa cruz and intense) and awesome components. i almost got a kona when i got my bike, kinda makes me wish i had waited. oh well, that's what new bikes are for.

Finally!

Finally, I am going to get my '04 Kikapu out of lay a way at my LBS. I kept making payments, but it didn't seem to go down much. So, I decided to sell my Isuzu Rodeo to get the money to get it out now. I get the money tomorrow and get the bike on Thursday (just my great timing, my LBS decided to close on Wednesdays this winter. This will be the last Wednesday they are closed this year ) But still, only 2 more days and I can bring her home, now if the ground would just dry out.

Got my 04 Kikapu in the beginning of May. Has taken about 6-8 rides to get it totally dialed in. Only thing I changed was the headset. I went with a Chris King (Totally sweet!). And I "NoTubes" the tires and wheels. Went with Specialized Roll-X Traction 2.0's. (Man those things stick!). I also had the LBS swap my 120mm stem for a 100mm stem. That last move with the stem did the trick. Now it's totally dialed in. Just FYI, here's my set up.
Front fork: 95 psi, rebound:1 click firm from mid position. Rear shock: 150 psi, rebound: 2 clicks firm from mid position. Tires:35 psi front/40 psi rear. I'm 6 ft. 200 lbs. 5 more psi made the steering twitchy. I get almost complete travel front and rear. PERFECT!

Thanks to Bart Stetler at South Park Cycles for hooking my up. Mine was the last '04 left. He's already sold 9 or 10 King Kikapu's.
