I was thinking of going with a Maxxis Minnion DHF 2.8 on the front of my hardtail and a 3.0 Purgatory on the back? I can't seem to find a 2.8 Purgatory....

Is this a weird set up for sizes ? Will it handle strange or will I be ok ?

All depends on what bike it is, it's geo and how you like the current handling with matched sized tyres. If it's a HT, then I'd say this would be a good combo, even in 3.0" the Purg won't still even be close grip wise to the DHF, so shouldn't feel off balanced to the rear. Only thing you might feel is the slightly steeper HTA/STA because of the bigger rear tyre.

Most things are personal. Some like purgatory rear but many find it slow. On 40 mm i love my rear 2.8 Rekon, fast with enough grip. Obviously if you do a lot of mud pass on the Rekon. My front 3.0 Chronicle is .5 in taller so you might readjust your cockpit a bit.
