I've been running 2.3" Contis on my 22mm (outside of rim, 18mm inside) wide Rolf rims with no problems. And last year, I had 2.35" Kendas on them. I'm wondering if a 2.5" tire on rims this wide would be a bad idea (i.e. would they blow off) or should they work okay?

Not willing to sell/swap my wheels, so please don't suggest that! I'm just wondering how wide a tire I can use before I run into trouble.

BTW, 3.5" between fork legs, only going on the front wheel; back will stay a 2.3".

you can, but that doesn't mean you should. it will give the tire a really round profile...i wouldn't do higher than the 2.3

Well the Crossmax SLR is 21mm wide (external) and Mavic recommends using nothing wider than 2" with 2.1" being the absolute widest you should run. That being said, No way would I put 2.5" tires on a 22mm wide rim. Widest I would go on a 22mm wide rim is 2.1".

I just found this thread.
WE don't recommend anything above 2.25 or 2.3 tires. Our MTB rim is of similar spec.
