Thunder Burts.
I was looking at those 2 Vittoria tires. The Mezcals remind me of the Nano which I used to run. I really like the look of the Terreno's but if it gets muddy, they look like they could get a little sketchy with the lack of center tread.I think Mezcals roll very well for their tread pattern, Vittoria Terreno's would be another pick. I've had good luck with some Rene Herse tires in 700x55 but depends on frame clearance.
I ran 700x55 Rene Herse slicks at Midsouth/Landrun in 2020 in horrible mud conditions and they worked awesome actually. The lack of tread didn't build up mud and I was able to ride way more stuff than most.I was looking at those 2 Vittoria tires. The Mezcals remind me of the Nano which I used to run. That's a good looking tire.I have Teravail Sparwoods on my Cutthroat, 2.2”. I’ve ridden on a number of surfaces and they’ve been great. I can ride pretty well on the pavement with them, they’ve done well on the local MTB trails I ride and then of course the dirt roads and such. The tread pattern is a low-profile type tread. They came with the bike, and after 1,300 miles on them since I got the bike in June, I‘ll stick with those when I need to replace them.
That's a nice bike.Have run mezcals and barzos on my gravel/ adventure rig with clearance for 2.1s. Highly recommend both. Barzo is better is looser/wetter stuff. View attachment 1961211
That exactly what I'm building. Then just take the MTB HT and have the advantages of flat bars
Have a 32 on the front and a 9-46 on the back.Just built my old HT for gravel as we have a rail trail close by. I put on a set of Thunder Burts. I think all the options listed are pretty good so just look for a deal to save some .money.
What gearing are you going with?
2.1 race kings..Turning a HT 29er into a gravel bike and want some higher volume tires. Any suggestions for some fast, maybe simi-slick 29x2.1 tires that work well on gravel?
This is a good page, tire rolling resistance tests: https://www.bicyclerollingresistance.com/mtb-reviews To me for a 2.1 wide gravel Thunderbutr is the best option. In rolling resistance, Race king finished right behind it. Maybe the Speedking would be a good option, faster than Thunderburt. The fastest tire Schwalbe Big one, I wouldnt use it as a gravel all around, yes, really fast, but too slick.2.1 race kings..
I have a pair im getting rid of..LMK
