I have been running a 1x9 with a 32T chainring for about a year now. I am think of going to atleast a 34 and possiably a 36. What will the pros and cons be? I really don't need more top end if anything I need lower gears to let me make some climbs easier.

I've been riding a 1x9 set up with a 34T chain ring with a 11-34T cassette. Only time I felt like tossing on a 36T cassette is when I happen to get on a long bike path or fire road. For trail riding, my set up is perfect! For me anyways...
It won't hurt to try it out, so toss on a 34T ring. I don't think you would need a 12-36T cassette as someone already mentioned unless your riding a 29er, but if you have 11-32T, change it!

I've been riding 1x9 for 2 years now with 34T chain ring and 11-34T cassette. I have the same climbing gears (at least the ones I would use) on a 22T ring with the same cassette. I climb just as good, if not even better on a 1x9. I also don't have many long steep climbs here in Ontario.

Yea, going to 34 or 36 will make the climbs harder. Maybe you should consider going 2x9.

It is unclear if you want to change the chainring or the cassette.

this but i am assuming he means the cassette. with that said a change to a 34t cassette is very helpful on a 1x9 with a 32 front ring. when not in the 32x34 the next gear down, 32x30 makes life a little more steady compared to the similar 32x28 when using an 11x32 cassette.
