did some searching but did not find what i'm looking for.

I want to turn my 1X1 26" into a 700c drop bar monstercross...and posted a similar question the SS forum (only to have me ask more questions..ugh)

my question is how big/wide tire can I run with the v-brake adapters that are out there (Mavic, Dreamworks and Xtracycle).

initially i would like to roll 44 mutanoraptors and possibly up to 2.0 29'er tires

why not run disc brakes and not worry about tire sizes?

I think adapters should be able to fit any size tire the 1x1 will accept. Most are flared out above the posts.

i have a set of Mavic SSC SL's (rim only) laying around......and a budget.

a new set of wheels and brakes is not gonna fly with Mrs. CHUM...especially since i'm building up a custom SS rig....

paragon is cutting his new dropouts and he has my tubing....rock n roll when Rick's new swingers come in...think I settled on root beer brown w/ purple ano I9's for my curvy swamper...

and yah...Paul brakes are sahweet.....but I cannot justify $250 for V's....rats...

Avid BB7s are dirt cheap, and work just fine. I have them on my Surly Big Dummy cargo bike as well as my Surly 1x1 11th Anniversary Edition, and they provide plenty of stopping power in wet, muddy, and dry conditions. Just a thought, obviously it’s a matter of personal preference… but I don’t ever see myself going back to a bike with cantilevers.

How wide are those rims? I am just wondering how much they will spread out the 44 or 50mm tires you're aiming for.

they are currently shoe'd with 44's and fit fine....i meant to say the Mavics are rim only wheels..

i'll need to get a 135mm axle kit and redish if i'm gonna continue with this project...or add a spacer on the ND side....

i had nanos on 29er wheels in mine.
didn't like it much but they fit fine.

here's what i do, well i'm using cheap ass bengal mechanical disc brake, i know... i should use avid bb5/bb7 road brakes... but... it's deeper pull issues on it.
later on i'll change wheels, using 700c / 29er...
what you see on this pic is i'm using 26" maxxis hookworm front and hollyroller rear

Bump, where are you at on the Hunter vs. this 1x1 deal Nick..not necessarily what you would or might want but I still have that pair of 650's w/ Surly hubs gathering dust. Someone on the Nor-Cal board's gotta have a set of Pacenti's sitting around too..LMK..I'm still around (working) in the SouthBay.

Tires are Mutanoraptors (44)
Frame size is a 20" (Large)

she's a fun bike to ride :thumbsup:...

but currently relegated to kid(s) hauling duty to and from the local park

I know this thread is 6 months old.... but I just got a 1x1 frame and want to use my Ksyrium SSC SL roadie wheels on it, basically build the same bike CHUM has there. The link for the brake adapters is dead, anyone know where to find them? Any other brake ideas?
