Hello all! I’ve decided to bring my bike back to life and thought I’d share and ask some questions. I’ve been a lifelong biker but I stopped riding in 2007 from three cracked lower vertebrae suffered during a ride. Those bones broke because I had cancer and didn’t know it. My trusty steed was parked and remained that way until last month. I simply got tired of walking past seeing it in such poor shape. My intent is to get it rideable and reliable, including the Headshok. I’ll likely sell it, since hard riding is in my past.

So far I’ve done the tear down and salvaged what I could which wasn’t much.

Items done:
  • front crank, replaced chainrings
  • replaced rear cassette, 8- speed
  • brake pads all around
  • rebuilt and repacked front wheel hub
  • rebuilt the Headshok. This includes new seals in the DD60 cartridge and new steering stem bearings
  • new brake levers

Looking for tire recommendations for a 26” wheel. I was thinking about going with twist grip shifters since that’s what I had originally. The saddle is another question. I loved the Selle on it but it’s too far gone. I can’t find modem saddles that I think I’ll like.

Thanks for looking!

Following intently as I’ll be starting on a resto of my 96’ F1000 next year! Love me a head shock.

Cool that you're saving the bike (y)

But I assume you know the value is the fun/diversion for you, and not what you'll sell it for...

I'd put on whatever you can find on sale or on CL/Fleabay/Marketplace/Pinkbike.

Maybe be more selective if you'll keep it for a townie / pub-bike.

Oh, it's only an investment in time and the enjoyment of bringing it back. I have set a budget but have no illusions of making money.

I may change my mind about keeping it once it's back together and I ride it a few times, but with my limitations, it will just be slow jaunts around the park. Besides, I sold my bike rack years ago. I'm lucky I kept most of my tools. :geek:

Slow jaunts are still fun. Congrats on beating the cancer(y) (y) (y)

For the tires, something fat and smooth would be good I suppose?

I had some baldy Avocet Fast Grip tires back in the day on my Beast of the East for when the trails were too muddy and did roadie group rides... too bad they're not made anymore.

Edit: I had to google those Avocets since it's been a loooong time... I guess they were only a 1.9"

Selle Italia still makes a few conventional looking saddles if thats what youre looking for.

I had the opportunity to spend a few interrupted blocks of time working on the bike this week, and aside from a few tweaks and adjustments, it's ride-ready. I like the Specialized Bridge Comp saddle and may go with that, but I'm still undecided there.

Sorry about being a little late to the party. Good job on getting the bike into ride ready condition. I am in the process of getting a '94 Delta V600 frame rebuilt, as well as ''94 Super V 2000.. so I know the "joys" of rebuilding a HeadShok. OK the fork itself is not too bad, its finding parts for it that is oh so much fun!
Anyways, I didn't see posts if you found any '26 wheels for it. What I did was pick up a set of Velocity Cliffhangers with machined sidewalls and Shimano T610 hubs. They come in both silver and black rims and hubs so you have some options as far as color goes. They feel about the same as the Deore LX hubs I have on my '92 M700. I can swap the wheels between all three of the bikes if I should break something..
