It's a gorgeous bike in amazing condition.
I was slightly surprised to see a U-brake on an '87; can't remember exactly when that style brake was introduced but I imagine '87 must have been the first year.
Around that time I had an '84 Diamond Back Mean Streak and an '86 Specialized Stumpjumper, both of which were outfitted with cantilevers.
When the U-brake models were introduced I remember feeling like they were a dramatic improvement in style and performance... then reality reared its ugly head when my riding buddies' new U-brake-equipped bikes rode their bikes in the mud.
Not a put down at all -- U-brakes are a part of history and IMO the fact that your perfect condition Klein is outfitted with one only makes it more interesting and perhaps valuable.
Indeed it should rest above some lucky collector's mantel.

Hi Jim, the more I look into this bike, the less I'd be comfortable riding it around town and cross country just due to the wear and tear and even possibility of it getting stolen. I agree I think it should go to a collector, but happy to bump the thread!

Many thanks to all of you who have responded to this bike. Your input has allowed me to gain a greater understanding of this Mointain Klein. She is definitely a beauty, as I have taken care of this bike (paint is still shiny new!). I would like to find a collector or Klein enthusiast as this is a very special piece of history.
