Hi everyone, I'm in the process of building up a Stanton Switch9er Ti and looking for suggestions on cranks. Running a Shimano XT drivetrain and looking for 165 cranks - catch is that I need to be able to actually buy them ...

In an ideal world, I'd buy eeWings, but they're expensive and impossible to find. Top contenders at the moment are: Ingrid, Ignite Catalyst, or Praxis Girder.

Prefer lightweight aluminum and non-propriatary chainrings. Would happily do XT or XTR but can't find them. Other ideas? Thanks!

Carbon crank okay?
Quarq XX1 Dub is available in 8 bolt to be used with Quarq Spider.
But then ALUGEAR make direct mount chainring for 8 bolt Sram crank as well. Their chainring works with both Shimano and Sram chain.

The Ingrid cranks look nice, but you can only use their chainrings and you need special tools from them too.

How about a GX Dub crank?
My 165mm crank with a 32 chainring and the bb is around 700g.
Shimano HG+ chainrings exist for the Sram DM standard too.

I went with RaceFace Aeffect R 165mm cranks. I originally had Shimano cranks but found some of the chainrings I wanted or liked did not come in Shimano Direct Mount. I also didn't want to have to replace my bottom brackets which were already for 24mm Shimano crank axles.

Thanks for all the suggestions so far, these are great!
  • Love the White Industries suggestion, that may be at the top so far, though the only bummer is the proprietary chainring (same issue for the Ingrid). If that came in standard DM, I'd be in.
  • the SRAM options certainly work and I have a set of 170 Descendant cranks I can throw on for now, but (and I know this is ridiculous), I'd love to go boutique or at least not mixing and matching SRAM/Shimano. Like I said, I know it's ridiculous, but so is buying a Ti hardtail...
  • Bike24 is brutal, they always have Shimano stuff, but actually getting it to Canada is rough.
  • Oh, and I'm not fully opposed to carbon. The Praxis Girder is actually high on my list too right now.

Thanks again for all these suggestions!

I have these same cranks. They're great.

White can be done with Wolftooth as well.

The White Industries is getting more and more tempting. Think I just may have to splurge and do that, esp. as I can do Wolftooth if needed.

Looked into canfield, but all sold out. In generally, availability is pretty rough right now.

Canfield was on my short list as well.

I love the way the White is designed. Lockring is really great (do need an ISIS bottom bracket took). Also love that the preload adjuster is metal, as compared to plastic that a lot of companies use…

I currently have gx cranks but these look pretty cool and use sram dm rings. Made in the USA as well 👍🏽
