New to downhill suspension, building up my first downhill frame. Thinking about going for a fox van r 9.5x3.0 with a 300lb coil. Would that be a good setup? 8" travel frame. I probably weigh 140 with all my gear. I got something close to that using a spring rate calculator... bike is GT DHi with boxxer cup forks.

The right coil for a shock on a new frame has always required a few tries for me. Going lighter or firmer until everything feels well balanced with the front suspension. Keep the extra coils because later after becoming more familiar with the bike, or changing the fork, or for different types of DH runs, a step lighter or firmer shock coil might be desirable.
