Yesterday, on light street ride, after a bunny hop I felt the tail a bit strange. I have a brief look but nothing serious. On the next curb I've tried a pedal kick and stopped on it.

Bang.. broke.

Brake hose, broke too, spilled all the oil all over. Now I have a "righty".

Anyway I could use a 16" frame.
Have fun riding this winter cause I will not ride at all. I'll buy a new one next spring.

Magellan Serpens frame (something from CE Europe). Not sold in the US.

I'm happy it was only 3" curb.

You could email them & see if they will do a out of warranty replace. If they do you can sell the frame to cover the cost of a good replacement frame better suited for your riding.

I'll infer that by "Pedal kick" you do some trials riding. Trials and disk mounts have a well documented history of failure. That's why most companies making trials dedicated frames don't offer them with a rear disk option.

I hope Magellan will offer a warrantee for you.

BTW. Magellan frames were sold in the US...by Tim @ trialsinUSA.

Hmm, I did not know it was sold in the US too.
It was just for play. I'm not so much into trial riding. I've learned some moves but basicaly I just do some XC for fitness and fun.

Yeah, that's someting I found out from a trial rider after I broke it. He never told me this before. :-(

Don't talk to the bike shop because they don't want to be bothered. Most manufacturers will offer a crash replacement credit, even after the frame's warranty expires. Call or email the manufacturer with the pics and serial numbers so they can make a decision on the spot.

JC, just thought your comment (albiet accurate - in most cases) was rather funny considering your signature...

most manufacturers won't offer a full warranty outside the warranty period but many do offer crash 'rebates'. if you are a supporter of the LBS they would be wise to help you out, at least with contacts and other info.

I will amend that to say the bike shops are usually completely out of those loops and if they didn't even try, then they aren't doing their service for you. In that case, go the direct route.

I will have to agree deal with the manufacture direct it cant hurt, worst case 2 no's, best they say yes. If they say yes take it to your dealer, dont get a fire started & point fingers, you will need the dealer to be the middle man for you.

Either you haven't stated your location or I missed it in one of your posts. If you're in the US, give Tim Williamson a call (you can find his number on his web page www.trialsinusa.com) and see if he can either act on your behalf, or at the very least give you some contact info for Magellan and some advice as to who to try to reach. Tim's a friend of mine and a great guy.

Dedicated trials frame manufacturers started putting disc mounts on the frames about five years ago. SS/CS breakage is just one of the problems that was introduced. There are a myriad of other issues and thankfully, there aren't that many manufacturers that offer rear disc mounts anymore.

No, I'm not from US. I am in Timisoara, Romania, and we have here an institute for welding and material strenght testing, the only one in the country in fact. I was there with the frame and the welder said that by Friday it will be done for less than 10$. I'll be back with some pictures after.

One of the best trial riders in the area had his broken (near BB) frame, welded there and using it for another 2 months before he sold it.

Probably I'll build a SS cruiser from the frame, don't know how.
Or, some light MTB for my girl friend so we can both go out and have some fresh air around town, but for this, I'll have to make her to like this sport.

Yeah, it's fixed (for 6$).

It will need a bit of paint and I'll hit it as hard as I can.
Maybe something else will break.

Yeah, it looks like a $6 repair. I wouldn't be too proud of it, especially when it breaks again. If the person doing the repair was experienced in tbis type of thing, they would have made the metal plate curved to fit in the inner radius of the dropout so it could be welded there., too.

It could also have used some better cleaning. When welding, clean surfaces can mean the difference between a good and a bad weld.

That's what I tough too, when I wrote down the price.

I'll try my best to break it, again. If it keeps up with me 'till next spring it's more than enough. I've use it to learn all the tricks I know now, so I guess is good for a "school" bike.

True about chicks, it take more than 6 bucks but well under 100 to have fun.

It's a pitty there are not many places near town where you cand go free riding but trial and dirt are some places.
