Everyone's favorite time of the year is back ... Can you ride your bike to the Oak Tree halfway up Kennedy in under 20 minutes and or make it to the top intersection of Kennedy and Priest Rock trail in under 40 minutes? Well ... It has been a long time since I was able to do a 20/40 and now unfortunately a sub 40 looks unattainable also. Find more information from last year's 20/40 here: 10th Annual 20 and 40 under @ Kennedy Trailhead * The 20/40 and Dogmeat no dab are Noble Traditional Challenges of Sierra Azul and the MTBR Norcal community IMHO. Good Luck with both challenges and post up your results! Be careful around the poor old beat up sub 20 Oak tree! This large branch is in danger of failing with a huge crack in it and it's outer limbs on the ground already! Starting Kennedy trailhead pic below. Don't try to pass the buck. He's way too fast! * Edit: This is an important key for sub 20 success IMHO. The 3 hairpin times. *** 6th Annual 20/40 under from Kennedy Trailhead Plant Deer Wood Tree Fawn

I'd be hecka keen to try the 40 sometime this year but I know I have work to do to get there. I'd say I am a 43 on a good day right now? The 20 is beyond my reach by a long shot.

Do you think you can get your sub 40 before that fc guy gets his Squashy? I'm prolly going up Dogmeat with another hiker gal pal tomorrow. She usually does Tuesdays. And Yes ... the Salsa will no dab Dogmeat during 2021!

Day three in a row brought me to Kennedy by myself today. Was supposed to ride with a buddy but he slept in. I noticed my tires were almost flat but had my stopwatch so did a to tree only timed ride. A shameful 31:30 to tree ... but the current "challenge KOM " to the tree eh? After the crap ride ... I went looking for a mushroom pic and ran into a hiker gal pal and started back down after scrounging a small mushroom shot and sure enough up the hill comes one of my favorite Ex's. All in all a Fantastic Day! That's right. It's the long game so zoom out and have a fantastic day. - @pianomattyb Smile Glasses Sky Goggles Bicycle helmet

Sorry I missed your note Ancient! I will take over next year. I will attempt this but I don't think I have a bike that will allow for the sub 20. I will try though because I am dumb.

Thanks Paul ... For the record ... I last minute ... PM'd Mr. Marshall to take over the 20 and 40 under challenge because ... well I'm too damn old to do my own challenge. I've retired from the two Sierra Azul challenges pretty much after last years difficulty in doing Dogmeat no dab. Time for a new man for the 20/40 job and who better than pmarshall eh? It's tradition for me to turn things over to others and good for everyone. I'm proud of what I did do over the years on both Challenges! "Glory Days" and "When I was young" both songs playing in the background! Let's send me off with a good showing this year Sailors!

God news, bad news... On October 18, I made an attempt and did a 40:33... my best time in 8 years. I've been trained with ebike and am 56 years old now so it was so cool to put up a good time.

So I should be good if I train a little bit and attempt now right? Wel the bad news... I just spent 8 days in Maui. And I have to return this bike soon.

So the window is closing for the 40 minute. 22 minute would be a good goal for the tree.

AR, you can mark me down for under 40, but unfortunately NOT for under 20... Much work left to do. 1:40 to be precise.

Nice work!! Very consistent according to your watts and heart rate. To break the 20 minute barrier, you basically need a 35-36 minute pace. 40 is a great achievement!!!!!

Haha, I know what I "basically " need but am a little worried I may end up with a heart attack... I will try to lighten up the bike first...

I just figured out the solution for the 20! And I'm gonna try it. It's actually good for the training to the top.

View attachment 1957387 Pretty good effort today for me. That's a little more like it.
That ain't nothing to sneeze at. The sub 20 has me worried. My old racing hardtail is non-op right now and the last time I did this I got a sub 20 and a 33 minute to the top. I will give this a go on my trail MTB but it is about 12 lbs heavier and I am going to feel every bit of it. I am confident I can get sub 40 on this monster but the 20 will be close if not a minute over. I guess there is one way to find out!

You could borrow one of my bikes Paul ... ^^^ the 20lb Salsa at 27x19 might be faster than the 27lb Ripley or use someones cross bike for the win. When I was stronger the SS bikes were my favorites for Challenge season. Not to show off ... no never to show off.
