I've asked this question before but I have reason to question the response I received.

This is my question: When going from a 12 sp SRAM cassette to an 11 sp SRAM cassette, will the 1st gear (the big one) have the same alignment with both cassettes compared to the wheel/ spokes, or will the high end gear 10T gear have the same alignment?

Please advise.

The big cog definitely won't. On wide range mtb cassettes, especially (and this has been going on for awhile), part of what enables more cogs and bigger cogs is that the bigger cogs get dished towards the centerline of the bike. They can overhang the hub flanges some.

The small cog is more likely to align closely between the two cassettes, but I'm not sure I'd bank on it being exact with the spacing between cogs being slightly different, too. Should be close, as the dropouts in the frame will dictate a maximum that's not going to change.

Thank you.

It sounds like I can't count on even the highest gear on either of these cassette aligning either.
The new 11 speed might just be mounted in between so to speak.
