Hi guys i currenty have a HT fatty that has a 100mm BB with a raceface crankset.

Im thinking of buying a FS frame, but looking at specs it says BB is 120mm.

So does this mean i wont be able to use my Raceface Crankset & BB from my old HT frame?

Do i need to find a 120mm BB & what about cranksets?

It's all about the crankset axle length rather than the BB.... The question is what is the width of the of the rear hub currently and is your chainset a chinch type that if needed you can replace the axle.

As for BB, usually with 120mm you just leave the centre tube out as the actual cups are the same.

Constantjin, you say you used your 100mm Raceface Crank on your 120mm bb frame, this sounds like exactly what i need to do, my frame is 100mm BB at present using the raceface crank set (Race Face Ride SM) & the Raceface 100mm BB.

So all i would need to do is get a 120mm BB & i would be able to use my current 100mm Crannkset if i remove the spacers? Looking at my crank setup on my current setup, it has 1 spacer on one side & 2 spacers on the chainring side?

Also im 99.9% sure my crank is a Cinch type?

This might be confusing you, as I said, the crank axle is whats key and by your description it sounds like you 'should have' an XCF190 - 190.25mm length axle. When using this with a 100mm BB, you should notice 10mm spacers (1 either side) are fitted between the BB and the Crank faces to take up the space. With a 120mm spacing, you dont need these.

Now the spacers you mention, 2 driveside, and 1 non... thats the BB spacer which should remain the same swapping all you have to the 120mm shell. You shouldnt need anything to try it, just leave out the centre tube that should be installed, when installing the BB at the now wider 120mm.

And i will probably be upgrading my crank set to a carbon set as the frame im getting is a carbon FS, so would this crank set along with the axle above be compatible?

I'm pretty sure the Hope axle will not fit the Race Face crankset. You should get a Race Face axle for the Race Face crank. Call up Race Face, tell them what you are trying to do and go with what they say.

Indeed, they are not cross compatible..... The axle size I have outlined above XCF190.... complete cranks are these ones:

the race face use 2x 10mm spacer outside the BB. i have fitted them without these 2 spacers.
its an axle for 197mm double cranck.
not sure what kind of official answer you will get, but this has worked for me.
