Just as title says, I am looking for a 1.5" headset for the new bike (Banshee Rune). The bike came with a FSA Big Fat Pig which is a big, fat POS! The headset loosens on its own and rattles like a $2 whore due to caged bearings. I am actually a big fan of FSA headsets, rode the BFP DH Pro for several years with no probs at all, not bad for a $30-35 headset, just too bad they don't make them in a 1.5". So, considering a FSA Orbit Xtreme Pro 1.5" headset (heard mixed reviews on these due to poor lower stack seals) or a Cane Creek XX-II 1.5"? I know the Chris King and CC 110's are the way to go, but I just can't see myself paying more than $100 for a headset no matter how long it may last, especially since I never paid more then $35 for headsets in the past that lasted for years. Any suggestions?

I have the older generation of cane creek XX on my bike (bought it second hand, came with the bike) and it still works flawlessly after quite some time... and i beat on it chris king headsets are overrated peices of crap, and that is
a FACT! horrible design!

if you wanna stay true to FSA, E13 reducer cups and FSA internal headset is a good alternative also.

Thanks, very helpful and a smokin' deal on that. I wonder how much different the XX is from the XX-II? Looks like the XX-II in about 60g's lighter (not a whole lot) and uses an "x-nut" style clamp on top.

I think he has a 1.5 fork so those unfortunately are not an option. I have a set on one of my bikes for the last 4 years and they have been flawless.

Cane creek, hands down - if you don't want to pay for the 110, just get the XX - their headsets are sweet, and unlike king pos they don't creak.
Have the 110 in 1.5 and 1 1/8, love it - but nothin wrong with the XX either.

Thanks, I just ordered the Cane Creek Double X 1.5" headset last night through CC online as per "murd's" recommendation. Only $30 + shipping of course. It's the old style XX, about 50g's heavier than the XX-II, but for only $30 I couldn't pass it up and it still will be lighter and I am sure much better than the FSA BF Pig it's replacing.
