Hey guys I'm looking to buy a Gary Fisher 2008 HIFI,

described as: Platinum Series 6066 and 6061 butted and hydroformed aluminum, disc specific, G2 Geometry; aluminum, co-molded carbon swingarm, 5" rear wheel travel(with lock out) . The frame size is md.
Shimano XT rear derailleur, Shimano LX shifters, Shimano front derailleur , Bontrager 44/32/22 crank , Avid disc brakes ,Manitou front sus-fork 4" front wheel travel(with lock out)

The Catch: there is supposedly 2 different types of wheels? supposedly same size

I can get it for $800, is this a good deal, and what questions should I be asking them?

Thanks

I'd say if it's in good condition that's a good buy. I just bought a 11 HiFi Pro and paid a lot more than $800....Great ride too.
Alright thanks, I'm super excited about getting out and riding again..
Do you think I should be concerned about there being 2 different wheels?
No, he probally tacoed one and replaced it with a better wheel.
not if I buy this from the guy in atlanta today.

Why? Didn't 2008 and earlier HiFi's have so many frame failures that the 2009 models were completely redesigned and Trek started the move to disolve GF and separate themselves from the warranty and liability (happened last summer). I'd bet that bike didn't have an easy life either.

If it was a 2009 or 2010 (with ABP) sure, great deal on a great bike. And then there used to be the 26er HiFi's and the HiFi 29er's. Bikepedia lists 11 different HiFi models for 2008:

  • HiFi
  • HiFi Carbon
  • HiFi Deluxe
  • HiFi Deluxe 29
  • HiFi Deluxe GS
  • HiFi GS
  • HiFi Plus
  • HiFi Plus 29
  • HiFi Pro
  • HiFi Pro 29
  • HiFi Pro Carbon

The specs on bikepedia suggests that it's a 07 - fox forks for 08 (except the carbon models).

I'm with clones123 about it's use - a fs bike is likely to have seen harder riding than a hardtail.

not if I buy this from the guy in atlanta today.

How do you know it's in ATL?
I was looking for a bike and found this one on craigslist Atlanta section http://atlanta.craigslist.org/eat/bik/2201223892.html. I found a 2010 specialized fsr comp for 1100 out the door, figured that was a decent deal and bought it.

It's definitely a 2008 HiFi Deluxe with a different fork- I don't know why he wouldn't have kept the Fox. Not to mention 4" would screw with the bike geo, the HiFis are meant for 120mm.
Okay thanks guys, I sided on continuing my research and am looking at a 2010 Garyfisher Cobia...

Thanks again
Sorry for the Hi-Jack (get it? "Hi"...), but I gotta do 2 more posts before I start my own thread on trying to mount a Manitou shock on my '08 HiFi Pro frame. Anybody done this?
