I am looking to replace or at least try to tighten the stock bottom bracket that gives some play when pedalling. Does anyone know what tool(s) I need to get to work on the bb. Its a TruVativ Power Spline. The crank is a TruVativ 5D and I have made sure it is tight with the right size allen wrench. I'm assuming that this allen wrench is all I need to get the cranks off.

I have read up on the bb on MTBR and can see that it is pretty much junk so I don't mind upgrading it.

Cheers.

Andy,
Just tightening the crank bolts may not remedy your issue with a play at the BB area. You might have to remove the cranks and find a BB splined tool to tighten the cups into the BB shell of your frame. Do this in the following order.
1. remove both crankarms (you might need a crank puller) can't remember
2. loosen non-drive side cup a little (1/2 turn)
3. tighten drive side cup until you cannot turn anymore without using mega amounts of leverage.
4. snug down non-dive side cup firmly.
5. check for play.
*if play is still evident, you need a new unit.
