I have an 05 sherman flick plus and have a question since my shock knowledge is minimal. I am about 175 lbs and upgraded the medium spring that came stock to a firm spring but something doesn't seem right. the sag seems ok but i think my issue is in the dampening or something because I am bottoming out the fork from bunny hops and jumping down only a few steps and the compression is as high as it goes. it also rebounds really slow set as hig has the rebound goes. the travel of the shock feels really smooth but something just doesn't feel right. is it possible i don't have enough oil in the fork or need a different weight or could i also possibly need a firmer spring? an extra firm spring seems like a bit much. Anyone with any ideas on the possible problem or personal experience with this fork would be great. thanks for the help...Vince

On mine I just went to the firm spring like your setup. Your statement there on the rebound is not clear. Are you running a lot of rebound or light rebound control? I run mine with fairly light rebound or it just packed up in successive hits. The bottoming on that fork is pretty much controlled by the spring. The compression on that TPC setup is more of a fine tune IMO. Oil level is not a tuning factor, as a rule, on that fork. However, if the TPC cart is overfilled, it will limit travel. The first thing I'd do is check, or have checked, the oil level in the TPC cart. It is important. Oil weight changes on that fork don't make as big a difference as it does on a Marz HSCV cart. It sounds more like the TPC cart oil level to me. That's the first thing I'd check.

hey man, i just got the same fork as you...i love mine..i'm the same weight as you and will be putting in a X-firm srping when it comes in...i read somewhere on the net that the next firmer spring is only like 12% more...and that the xtra firm is like 30%...anyway, i routinely do 3 foot drops and my bikes hard, lots of stoppie tricks and stuff that requires a strong fork...this is probably your issue, see if they will exchange it for you.

i too notice that the compression basically doesn't do anything, i've opened it up and can't figure out what the mechanism is, whether it is supposed to be air through the needle valve or oil...i would guess oil should be going in and out but the level inside looks low stock

i haven't been able to find any info on the correct oil level on the net for the Flick+

When you go to Manitou's website, go to forks, then look at the very top of the page in very small print for "Tech Support". They have excellent service manuals in PDF files.

thanks

I checked the oil today and it was a little low so i am gonna ride it after work and double check that i actually made some difference. I think you might be right about needing the extra firm spring so i'm gonna order that and give it a shot. I was also wondering if i could put the tpc+ in the fork instead of the crappy tpc it came with. thanks again...Vince

Yes, TPC+ will interchange with TPC, but give that TPC a chance when it's set up right. You might find that it works fine. Personally on my Sherman Firefly with TPC+, I found it was a little too harsh. I think TPC makes a better trail fork while TPC+ will handle bigger drops and jumps better. There's a preference issue involved here for many.
